It boggles one’s mind why someone would be so boring, but there are some people that go about hacking Facebook accounts!
This is extremely frustrating and they might not just post fake messages on your wall, but they can even message all your friends.
We looked into this matter and investigated what you can do if your Facebook profile or the page has been the target of a hacker.
How do I know my Facebook account has been hacked?
If you suspect that your account has been hacked, the 1st thing to do is to have a look at your login setting. You can access this by going to your Setting menu – Security login and the Where you’re logged in. A list of the devices you are logged in to, together with the locations are listed here.
Other signs that you have been hacked:
Friend requests were sent to people you don’t know.
You see messages in your sent items that you didn’t send.
Strange posts are appearing on your wall.
Your name, birthday, email or password has been changed.
Steps to take if your account has been hacked
The first thing you must-do if you suspect that you’ve been hacked is to change your password. It is advisable that you use a random combination of letters, numbers, and symbols for your password.
If you picked up that you’ve been hacked through your login history and you see other logins that weren’t you, click on the three dots on the right of the log and select Not You. Then click on Secure Account and Facebook will take you through the steps of securing your account.
If you suspect you are getting a friend request from a fake account or you know of a friend’s account that’s been hacked, you can report it HERE.
How to keep your account safe
Unfortunately, as technology is advancing, so are the skills of hackers and you cannot guarantee 100% that you won’t be hacked again. You can beef up your account security to at least minimize the risk.
You can do so by going to Settings – Security & Login – Setting Up Extra Security.
It is advisable that you turn on your login alerts so that you can receive notifications when there is a new login to your account. This way you will immediately see if there is a suspicious login on your account.
You can also enable two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of login security.
You can also choose trusted contacts (a few close friends or family members), that can help you unlock your account in the event that your account’s password has been changed by the hacker.
If your Facebook account has been hacked, there is a possibility that the hacker could have accessed your personal information and data on your computer as well.
